Damp survey

Identifying the Cause of Damp

Damp can occur for many different reasons. Penetrating damp, rising damp, plumbing leaks, condensation, defective gutters and poor ventilation can all result in moisture appearing within a property. In some cases, more than one issue may be contributing to the problem.

During a damp survey, we inspect the affected areas and look for visible signs such as staining, mould, damaged plaster, deterioration to timber and other indications of moisture. We can also use appropriate moisture measurement equipment to help assess the extent of the problem.

The important thing is not simply to find where the damp is showing, but to understand why it is there. A damp patch on an internal wall, for example, doesn’t necessarily mean that the wall itself is the source of the problem.

Our damp surveys are designed to give you a clear understanding of what is happening within your property. We assess the areas of concern and, where necessary, investigate surrounding areas to help establish the underlying cause.

Following the inspection, we provide a report outlining our findings and recommendations. Where remedial work is required, we’ll explain what we believe needs to be done and why, giving you the information you need to make an informed decision.

We don’t believe in recommending unnecessary work. In some cases, the solution may be relatively straightforward, while more extensive remedial work may be appropriate where there is a significant underlying problem.
