Mould and condensation control
Mould and condensation are more than just an unsightly problem. Persistent condensation can create the ideal conditions for mould to grow, particularly around windows, external walls, corners and behind furniture. Black mould can release spores and other substances into the air which may irritate the eyes, skin and respiratory system, and prolonged exposure to damp and mould can contribute to respiratory problems. For this reason, visible mould should not simply be painted over or left to get worse.
At MK Damp & Timber, we look at the cause of the problem as well as treating the mould itself. Depending on the property and the extent of the issue, our work can include professional mould treatment and removal, the use of specialist fogging equipment where appropriate, and advice on reducing moisture levels and improving airflow. Simply cleaning mould from a wall will not prevent it from returning if the underlying condensation or ventilation problem is still present.
We can also help improve ventilation by installing or advising on trickle vents, air vents and suitable extraction, helping moisture escape before it has the opportunity to condense on cold surfaces. Trickle vents should be kept clear and operational, while kitchens and bathrooms should have effective extraction to deal with the high levels of moisture produced by cooking, bathing and showering.
Where appropriate, we can also advise on other measures such as improving airflow around furniture, identifying cold spots, reducing excessive humidity and considering dehumidification. The aim isn’t simply to make the mould disappear for a few weeks. We want to identify why it is there in the first place and provide practical solutions to help keep your home dry, healthy and comfortable.
